Course Reflection

Through seven days learning, we have known many useful softwares that we had never heard. Also, we learned many international technology to teach preschool children. For example, we will use the polleverywhere.com to create some surveys to know some problem and learning situation about our students if we become teachers. And according to the survey, I can design a best lesson plan for my students. And all the seven days’ class used computer as a necessary tool. This is a new and fantastic teaching method because we have no need to look toward the blackboard and every one has a big screem to learn the knowledge. Dr. Wang are so patient that she give every student her suggestion and correct our wrong part. Once she called my name, after she giving me some tips, she said my website was perfect and only a little part should do some modification.

Then I want list three tools I like most and will surely use them in my teaching. First one is ClassDojo. It can help manage students’ behaviors in class and connect students in a community. And parents could know what things their children have done in the class. This kind of software makes the teachers and parents communicate much easier. Through this project, I learned that there are such a convenient software can link students, teachers, and parents. As a future teacher, I can use this software to add some positive and negative points to assess my students’ behavior. I believe this way can encourage my students to do better and better. The second one is Wenjuanxing.com. this is my favourite survey software because it is in Chinese and we used this software to completed our research in the summer holiday. The third one padlet. Padlet is an electronic white board, where we can post text, audio, video, file, website links, and take photos if a webcam is embeded.Through this project, we can learned that we can share our opinions with others by sending the URL or embed it in blog or web page. It is very convenient for us to discuss some problems and we can stimulate our mind by thinking other people’s thought.

Also, I want to show three tools I may not use.First one is schoology.com. Because I can upload all my course materials on the baidupan.com and share these materials in Wechat. So it is not necessary for me to use schoology.com. The second one is testmoz.com.Because I think it is much more complicated than polleverywhere.com. When I finished my survey and wanted to publish it. I couldn’t find the button of Publish. The third one is the rubric because I prefer write my course demand in wps than in the rubistar.

Digital storytelling, technology medias, and flipped classroom helped me understand the course content.We can help our students organize and express their idea and knowledge in a meaningful way. In addition, we can help children with disability to increase their social skills and reading comprehension.All in all, we can stimulate their imagination and creativity by using digital storytelling. Thus, it is necessary for us to use this tool in the class. And flipped classroom can help students reduce their anxiety about homework and provide more time and opportunity for interation. And each student’s learning ability is different, flipped classroom is easier for student to learn the content at their own pace.

Through the team work, I think participation is very important. The attitude that thought everything is none of my business should be avoided. And put your opinion on others’ mind is not correct. If we are a team, we should solve the problem by communicating. Moreover, flich should be avoided because the team have to need a volunteer.

In this class, I am very hard-working and finish my part perfectly. Also, I helped my group leader to do many jobs and gave her my suggestions. When we had a group discussion, I paticipated in the talk and did some contribution. However, I thought I should be more brave when Dr. Wang said that the group needed one person to do the report. I felt nervous for standing in the center of the stage. Maybe next time I can do better. In the future, as a preschool teacher, I will combine the knowledge in this course I have learned with class I would taught. I hope my class will interest children by using the flipped classroom and other technology methods. All in all, I want to be an excellent preschool teacher in the future.

Day Seven

Online Questionnaire, Worksheet, and Quizzes

Today I was asked to create a quiz to assess their students learning outcomes. And the teacher recommended three website to us, they were polleverywhere.com, testmoz.com, and sojump.com.

These three website have their own pros and cons. As for polleverywhere.com, its web page is clear. If the teacher want to set a survey, it’s very convenient and teacher can add some pictures whatever they like.

As for the testmoz.com, I think it is much more complicated than polleverywhere.com. Because when I finished my survey and wanted to publish it. I couldn’t find the button of Publish. Then I asked my group leader, she helped me to solve this problem.

As for the  sojump.com, this is my favourite survey software because it is in Chinese and we used this software to completed our research in the summer holiday. There are 69 people join in our research and this website give us a wonderful analysis. Finally, we finished our research by its help.

Still about the sojump.com. Wenjuanxing has a lot of functions. For example, we can see the people who join in our survey and know where are they come from. If the survey only want the people from Shanghai to finish it, but some people from other area complete it, then we can delete the data about those other areas to avoid these data influencing our result.

I will use this tool to create some survey to know some problem and situation about my students if I become a teacher. And according to the survey, I can design a best lesson plan for my students.

In my point of view, these projects can facilitate and inspire students learning and creativity. Because when students finish the survey, teachers can know how much knowledge the students has mastered on earth. And students will know which part they are poor at as well. Thus we can encourage them to learn more about our class. And their parents can see their grade and learning situation of their children, this will let  teachers and parents communicate more.  Moreover, padlet will design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments. Its technology enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. All in all, these projects will help our students become more and more open-minded.

Day Six

Through this class, I have learned what was the digital storytelling. It is a tool to help ordinary people to tell real life story. And it can combine narrative with digital content, such as images, sound and video. We can help our students organize and express their idea and knowledge in a meaningful way. In addition, we can help children with diability to increase their social skills and reading comprehension.All in all, we can stimulate their imagination and creativity by using digital storytelling. Thus, it is necessary for us to use this tool in the class.

When I was creating my video, it was really hard to speak frequently before the camera. I felt nervous and restart many times. Fortunately, my partner was patient and encouraged me a lot and we finished this project together. Moreover, we should edit every person’s video and make it become a complete part. Yufan Zhuang recommended an app which called Quik to edit our video. It is very convenient for us to edit and add a new cover. Also we use imovie to connect our videos.

I have one suggestion to those who want to use video in their classes. That is try to make your video clear and easy to understand because our students are little,  if the video is not so clear and the speaking speed is very fast, our students will miss the knowledge, that’s the point we should notice.

In my point of view, the audio and video projects can facilitate and inspire students learning and creativity. Because this kind of teaching method can stimulate their interest of learning geography. If the teacher always talk in the center of the stage, students will look out of the window and think other things. As s teacher, we can’s catch their attention so the video and audio is very useful. Moreover, the video and audio will design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments. Its technology enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. Thus, the video and audio is quite related to the ISTE standards.

Day Five

Audio Editing

Today I was asked to create an audio file to teach the content in the lessson plan. First, I wrote the article about some traditional culture in the United States, and open the record function on my phone. Then I felt that it was hard to read the article correctly because the classroom was noisy and some words in my article were difficult. After practicing many times, I can finish my audio at last. With this kind of experience, I suggest to you if you want to make an audio, just calm down when you read your text, and you can do it.

Video Creation

I chose Final Pro Cut X to create my video because it is one of the most professtional video clip software in App store.  And this is the first time for me to  create a video. That is really hard to me because I should collect a lot of information and add audio documents for preparation. And I found that my audio documents couldn’t match the video. The time sxis was wrong so I must clipped my video again and again. Luckily, I solve this problem and finish my video project. However, I fail in uploading my video on Youku.com, so I uploading my video on baidupan.com again.

All in all, I want to combine the audio and video documents as course materials to let my students feel that the Geography lesson is full of interest. Maybe if the lesson is only taught by teacher and have no other styles’ teaching form, the students will feel bored and do their own things. So as a teacher, I should take time to use the audio and video to relax  my students’ mind.

Day Four

Website Design

This morning, we learned how to create a course site on the wordpress.com. The web page is quite different from a document page. For example, the web page is linked to the Internet and everyone who are surfing the Internet can see the web page. However, a document page only delivered among a small area.

A website is a collection of web pages. Before we starting to make a website, we need to design and consider what kind of web page we should collect into our website.Thus we should draw a storyboard ahead of time to make sure every is getting ready. And our website separate into four parts called Home Page, Course Materials, Assignments, and Resourses. Cici and I took charge in the Home Page. In this web page, we wrote a brief introduction about our course:Recognize Countries of the World. After learning this course,children can learn to recognize the continents and the main countries of the world. Also, they will be able to match the countries and those countries’ national flags. Moreover, teachers will introduce some traditional culture of these countries. Then we introuduce the situation about our teachers and make a parents feedback board to let them give us some suggestions. At the bottom of the home page, we post our class schedule to let everyone know the class time.

When I edited the home page, i should find every teacher’s blog and summary their introduction, this was a challeng to me because it wasted me a lot of time. And the speed of the Internet is very slow, many teachers’ blogs are impossible to open. Luckily, Psiphon solved my problems at last.

In my point of view, website can facilitate and inspire students learning and creativity. Because all the teachers’ course materials and resourses are on the website so that the students can scan those materials whenever they like. And their parents can see those materials,too. Thus they can help their children to learn this course and give them a hand. Moreover, website will design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments. Its technology enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. Day Three

My experience with class management software: classdojo

图标This morning we have learned a new free online software which called ClassDojo. It can help manage students’ behaviors in class and connect students in a community. And parents could know what things their children have done in the class. This kind of software makes the teachers and parents communicate much easier. We discussed some functions about classdojo, and we found that there was a buttom called Reset Bubbles. If we reset students’ score ever week, thet can reflect their learning situation at the end of the week and have a new chance to present themselves and correct their bad behaviors. Also, at the bottom of the screen, there is a time counting machine. We can use this machine to control the time of each task we gave to our students so that they can finish the task efficiently. In addition, as a teacher, we can share our students story with the Sharing buttom. This can make sure that the sharing is private. Only the parents we invited can see the sharing.

Through this project, I learned that there are such a convenient software can link students, teachers, and parents. As a future teacher, I can use this software to add some positive and negative points to assess my students’ behavior. I believe this way can encourage my students to do better and better. In addition, I can write my students daily life on classdojo so that their parents can know some interesting things in the school. This kind of way also left my students precious memory. Once we set such a large teaching community, each of my student and their parents will join in, and we will keep a close touch with each other, it will provide a good environment for students to live in.

Because according to the positive and negative role, all of them want their points to be higher and avoid doing some bad things to reduce their score. And their parents can see their score so that the parents can correct students bad behavior immediately and make sure their children grow healthily. Integrating electronic white board in classroom teaching

padlet After mastering the usage of classdojo, we learned a new software called Padlet. Padlet is an electronic white board, where we can post text, audio, video, file, website links, and take photos if a webcam is embeded.

Through this project, we can learned that we can share our opinions with others by sending the URL or embed it in blog or web page. It is very convenient for us to discuss some problems and we can stimulate our mind by thinking other people’s thought.

As a future teacher, I can put this padlet link on classdojo so that parents can make some comments and let us know what weakness we should prove. In addition, students can deliver their true thoughts on the padlet. We can use padlet to adjust our lesson plan and find a best way to teach students.

In my point of view, padlet can facilitate and inspire students learning and creativity. Because students can deliver their real thoughts on the padlet. Maybe they have some crazy and imaginative idea but they are shy to speak to the teacher directly. And their parents can see their thoughts so that the parents can encourage students to do whatever they want to do if that is a good thing. Moreover, padlet will design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments. Its technology enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. Day Two

My understanding on the flipped classroom

In this morning, we have learned something about flipped classroom. This kind of classroom is quite different with  traditional classroom. In traditional classroom, teacher always stand in the center of the stage. I think this teaching method is lack of communication between students and teachers. And flipped classroom can make up for that disadvangtage. For instance, flipped classroom can help students reduce their anxiety about homework and provide more time and opportunity for interation. And each student’s learning ability is different, flipped classroom is easier for student to learn the content at their own pace.

As a college student, I will be glad if my professors use flipped classroom. First of all, this kind of method will reduce the distance between teachers and students and the atmosphere of the class will be better. As for students, flipped classroom will make me have more time to do my own expriment and course. This is a challenge to me but my ability will be motivated.

If I am a teacher, I will use traditional classroom first to help my students lay a solid foundation. Only they had mastered some knowledge yet, they could use these knowledge to explore other things. And traditional classroom helps me set a teacher’s guidance role. And flipped classroom can stimulate their creativity and imagination. Maybe combine traditional classroom and flipped classroom is the best way to teach students.

Working experiences on creating a lesson plan with the flipped classroom teaching model

At first, we can’t determine the topic of our lesson plan because we don’t know which lesson do students in grade fifth interested in and how difficult should this course be. After discussing for a while, we choosed geography for our topic.

This kind of topic tests students common knowledge. When we designed our lesson plan , we were excited about there are too much knowledge we wanted to teach students. Moreover, we created our plan step by step.

Through this project, I know how to design a lesson plan just like a teacher. In addition, I learn the importance of the team work. I believe that I will do better next time.

My experiences on working on the survey

When we are creating our survey, we have no idea about what quetions should we raised. It is hard for us to ask those questions which related to our lesson plan. And we discussed and thought a lot, then we finished our survey.

This technology is easy for us because it is a easy understanding and timesaving work. All of us finished this work together quickly and we thought this website was very useful.

I will use this tool to create some survey to know some problem  and situation about my students if I become a teacher. And according to the survey, I can design a best lesson plan for my students.

About Bella and ED 326

My Chinese name is Chunting Huang, and my English name is Bella. The reason why I want to be a kindergarten teacher is because I believe that every child has infinite power. They are just like saplings which need to be taken good care of. In addition, we should respect children’s thoughts. Only in this way their creativity and imagination will de motivated. Thus, I want to put myself into the same position with children and make friends with them.

After today’s class, I learned some interesting methods of teaching preschool children. For example, using some technology medias such as iPad and computers are not encouraged in China because parents think their children will use these things to play games. However, teachers in America love to use these technology medias. The truth is that children will pay more attention about the knowledge on iPad instead of books.

Moreover, I would like to raise some suggestion about this course. Frankly speaking, I didn’t learn much knowledge today. Most time was used to solve the computer questions. Maybe next time the teacher can use some Chinese to explain the difficult computer problems so that we can have more time to discuss preschool education. And I hope I can learn more knowledge tomorrow.
